Rauschenberg made great contributions to American printmaking. He produced over 800 published editions during his career. He was fascinated with using everyday materials such as family photographs, street litter, magazine cut-outs, receipts to create his collages.
Rauschenberg helped invent new printmaking techniques such as one that combined lithography with silkscreen, to create his collage-like prints.
