Collection: Robert Bery

Robert Bery is a Manhattan-based artist working in a variety of mediums, including painting, photography and sculpture.

In his youth, during archaeological excavations in Israel, Bery discovered his passion for art. Bery’s long-held view is that he is “self-taught”, After a period of reflection, he decided to focus his talents to foster communication and unity among peoples, with art as his vehicle. Following the Yom Kippur War, Bery devoted himself fully to his artistic pursuits, studying at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Paris and at the studios of Henry Moore and Jacques Lipshitz in Italy.

Bery aims to promote positivity in the midst of the ever-duelling opposing forces of love and hate. He is determined to advance peaceful globalization, to discourage egotistical hubris, and to celebrate life and its rituals. His works often incorporate numerals to signify the importance of numbers both as a human universal and as a representation of monetary value. His subjects range from weddings to sports, and often include the exploration of traditionally “feminine pursuits” such as sewing and housekeeping. Bery’s work is full of color and energy.

Underlying his vision are themes that inform his diverse ecumenical art works. Bery explores aspects of his “feminine” side, through the activity of machine sewing, to create larger than life, complex, vibrant soft cloth sculptures, which reflect the erotic underpinnings of everyday male-female interactions. The pleasure he takes in life’s gift of sensation virtually bursts from his works, radiating the energetic essence that the sense of touch embodies.

Bery’s work can be found in many online collections, online and actual galleries and in many exhibitions each year, both in the US and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Art. He works with several art establishments in the Hamptons on Long Island, and in the Palm Beach County and South Florida areas including CASA Mondo and Manolis Projects. His “Pelican in Flight” Sculpture is at the entrance of the Barclay Club PGA National in Jupiter, Fl.

His art has been shown at the Miami Museum of Art, Soho West in Santa Monica, Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Artopia in New York, Gallery Function Art, Blum Helman Warehouse, and several other notable galleries. Pieces by Bery are in the private collections of Bill and Hillary Clinton, David Bowie, Willem Dafoe, Alec Baldwin, Benjamin Bratt, the Smithsonian Institute, the Federal Reserve Bank, and many others.
