Agam was pioneer in kinetic art and the inventor of the agamograph, a brightly colored type of print that appears to shapeshift before a viewer’s eyes. Agam creates these mystic, layered works using a technique called lenticular printing, where several images are combined on one surface to create illusions of depth when a viewer moves around the art. Depending on the position of the viewer, a single work shapeshifts between several compositions, producing holograms.

“My intention was to create a work of art which would transcend the visible, which cannot be perceived except in stages,” Agam
